Speaker Joe Straus Defections Continue: Rep. Randy Weber Withdraws His Support From Straus

Tue, Dec 14, 2010

Update

From Rep. Randy Weber’s Facebook page:  “Well, I have formally requested that Speaker Joe Straus take me off of his pledged list. My District has spoken & I have listened. Please pray that Texas will be strengthened and in GOD’s will, no matter who the Speaker is. We will be Stronger for it. rw”

Also, as of today, Texas House Republicans have a supermajority (101 of 150 seats) in the Texas House.  Why?  Because Rep. Aaron Pena and Rep. Alan Ritter switched parties, from Democrat to Republican.  Details here- http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/tx/7338908.html

“Pena said Texas Democrats have strayed too far from his conservative views” according to a story on the Houston Chronicle’s website.  We hope he’s ready to show his conservative side by supporting a conservative Speaker of the House.

Rep. John Zerwas will have to explain his support tonight for Speaker Joe Straus. Constituents in his district are not happy about this.  They believe he should represent his district by following the overwhelming message that they want a conservative Texas Speaker of the House.  http://instantnewskaty.com/2010/12/14/17985

Never thought much of Randy. After Straus helped him raise money, he turned around and stabbed him in the back.

Meanwhile, Straus helped lure two Democrats over giving Republicans a super majority in the House. THAT’S leadership.

Once again, no elected official should bought and paid for by a donation. It’s good that Rep. Weber is showing that his support for Speaker is not for sale.

Interesting how Randy Weber asked Straus to come for his fundraiser. Straus helped him raise money, and then a few days later Randy pulls his pledge. Straus was good enough for a fundraiser.

DG Farmer, Republicans would have had a super majority regardless. The two Democrats that switched, which I don’t trust, just added to an already large margin.

Jonathan, you’re right. In addition, leadership is when a person listens to their constituents and not necessarily the peers. Representation is based on the consent of the people and if Weber’s district don’t want Straus, he shouldn’t vote for him. Kudos to him for using simple logic. I wish more of our legislators would.
