NARAL Attacks Pro-life Groups; Austin City Council Votes Unanimously for Ordinance Attacking Pregnancy Resource Centers
Thu, Apr 8, 2010
The out of control Austin City Council trampled all over the Constitution and proper procedure today when they fast-tracked and ramed through an ordinance that seeks to undermine charitable pregnancy centers that help women.
They only allowed 15 minutes of testimony for our side and they skipped the required second and third reading and passed it through all in one day, due to a unanimous vote, 7-0. View the full video here: http://austintx.swagit.com/play/04082010-1/1/

Today, the Austin City Council heard testimony and unanimously voted (7-0) to pass an ordinance specifically designed to attack pregnancy resource centers (PRCs). This ordinance is the first-of-its-kind in Texas, and requires only PRCs to post signs at their entrance that they do not provide or refer for abortions or birth control. There is no corresponding requirement that abortion facilities post signs about the services they do not provide.
This ordinance was being pushed by the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL). Such a law has already been passed in Baltimore, Maryland, but it is being challenged in court. Liberty Institute testified at today’s City Council meeting, and will work to defeat these attacks on charitable centers that are so valuable to women.
“This pro-abortion, political effort by the City Council and NARAL is an outrageous example of out of control government,” said Jonathan Saenz, director of legislative affairs at Liberty Institute. “Why is the City of Austin so hostile to the needs of pregnant women served by charitable pregnancy centers?”

If this is legislated, then, PP should have to post:
MURDER ONLY, NO COUNCILING!
If I were them, I’d have no problem at all posting compliant signs like:
We support Human Rights.
Therefore, we do not provide services which assist nor cause the death of Humans of any age, nor do we provide referrals to businesses which do.
We provide pregnancy counselling and associated services.
“This center does not provide abortions or refer to abortion providers. This center does not provide or refer to providers of U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved birth control drugs and medical devices.” We also do not serve Hamburgers, Chili, nor French Fries. (No one says you can’t post additional signs or additional language.)
There you go, complete truth in advertising.
Good move to prevent a bait and switch in what already is a no-win situation.
Thanks for your encouragement. The Austin City Council, which is targeting pro-life centers who give free care to women, is out of control and must be stopped.
We must name the names of these who promote the destruction of innocent human life.
I sincerely hope that none of these individuals claim to be Christians and certainly not Roman Catholics.

These people are not representing me and I do not think they represent the majority of Austinites.
I will pray that a successful law suit ensues as this is clearly unConsitutional. I would like to know where I could donate toward such an effort.
Our Austin City mayor and council members are to me an evil bad joke. Poor excuses for human beings. Poor excuses of representatives of the people.
Here is my suggested sign for Abortuaries to post clearly on their facitilies.
“This Planned Parenthood of Austin facility does not provide or refer for parenting classes and emotional and material support for women and men facing an unplanned pregnancy and does not provide information on how not to murder an innocent human being. “
If they only didn’t subject women to their fear/guilt brand of “assistance” in the name Pregnancy Resources this would never require the government to intervene.
The same as FDA labels on food, if people/organizations/companies were trustworthy, government mandates/laws would never be needed for this.
If you care about saving a human life, put your name on a list to adopt their child or any child – lots to be adopted here, if not, allow people the freedom they rightfully have to resolve their challenges in the manner they see fit.
“If they only didn’t subject women to their fear/guilt brand of “assistance” in the name Pregnancy Resources this would never require the government to intervene.”
The “government” is not required to intervene even there were “fear/guilt brand of “assistance” ” at “pregnancy resource centers”.
I do not have any facts to support the “fear-guilt” accusation. People who go to a “pregnancy resource center” already know they place they are going to is solely devoted to saving the baby, bo the pregnant person must be open to and want to hear abuot their services.
The “solution” the government “requires” for the “problem” of the “fear guilt” factor is a total sham.
Just how does requiring this sign
““This center does not provide abortions or refer to abortion
providers. This center does not provide or refer to providers of U.S. Food and
Drug Administration approved birth control drugs and medical devices.”
stop the alleged “fear guilt” behavior you claim?
The whole think is rotton through and through. I think it is extremely suspicious that there is apparently one legal defintion for something called “pregnancy resource centers” and another for “abortion facilities.”
I personally would appreciate a little fear and guilt laid on me if I were considering murdering someone. I could have eternal consequences for my soul.
The government local or federal intervenes when there are multiple complaints involving false advertising or claims. Because this involves a medical procedure it carries a heavier weight.
All abortion clinics are Pregnancy Resource Centers (PRC), not all PRC’s provide abortions.
I have never had an abortion, but I know those who have. In my opinion, when they seek assistance in this area, seeking Pregnancy Resources, they are overwhelmingly seek to terminate their pregnancy.
The facilities now required to show their lack of resources frequently attempt to sway pregnant women to reconsider their choice using a few tactics. They show photographs, they quote bible verse, and they refer to the procedure as murder. This is fear and guilt, a pretty classless tactic used to subvert their opinion in what I would think be an emotional time.
Just because you believe there are eternal consequences doesn’t mean they do. Will you adopt a child? Or once it’s born it’s someone else s problem?
Yes-Pro-lifers adopt babies and children all the time. Over 500,000 couples are waiting, every year to adopt babies. Usually only about 20,000 babies a year are available to adopt. Pro-lifers also give money to maternity homes and pregnancy centers to help support the women who choose to keep their baby.
Do you give money to help Planned Parenthood pay for abortions?
I am not suprised about your donation.
